Hummingbirds fuel up
For their long fall migration
Lots of fall flowers.
Art Prescription: I’m still seeing hummingbirds coming to fall blooms. They won’t be around for long as they prepare for migration.
Alcohol ink:
The woods are quiet
My bike wheels spin on the trail
Flowers go to seed.
Art Prescription: Sam and I went to Tobacco Trail today. We drove out across Jordan Lake to the portion of the trail that crosses the wetlands of the lake. We saw four different kinds of woodpeckers. They have a primo opportunity in that habitat with all the stags. I’m coloring my Art Prescription Deck to make thumbnails for final production. This is the fun part!
Each 5 x 7 card in the deck will be printed on Bristol Vellum – an artist grade paper! The botanical names will be listed and the family.
Blackberry Lily – Belamcancia chinensis – Iris Family
Persian Speedwell – Veronica persica – Figwort Family
Birds of a feather
Flock together, so they say
Know where you belong.
Art Prescription: Remember the clicks in high-school where you were struggling to fit in? As adults, I think we struggle with this issue. Life is like a river, constantly moving and changing, going with the flow. Birds seem better than us at knowing who they want to fly with. For them it’s simple. It’s mutual support.
Colored pencil and pen and ink on index card:
A thing of beauty
In the eye of beholder
Color in your world.
Art Prescription: The Art Prescription Deck: A Dose of Coloring Inspiration is about ready to launch. I picked up some samples today and here is my colored piece. I can’t wait to see how others choose to color! The deck will come with a set of 12 pen and ink illustrations drawn from life at the North Carolina Botanical Garden with joy by me. My hope is for this product to benefit the health of many.
Across a wild field
Slender Blue Flags and Spring Vetch
Purple and pink waves.
Art Prescription: This is one of the twelve designs for the Art Prescription Deck: A Dose of Coloring Inspiration!! Whoot. Coming soon to my Etsy shop. I went to the NC Botanical Garden with my pen and ink Sunday. Best inspiration ever to be right there with the source!
Pen and Ink (designed for coloring)
Sweet gums are the first
Splashes of yellow appear
Leaves begin to change.
Art Prescription: Driving home from the farm today I began to notice a few patches of yellow here and there. In our yard it is the sweet gum trees that are the first to start changing color and dropping their leaves. The cooler mornings are a sure sign that fall is here.
Colored pencil and ink on index card:
Someone to swim with
Come along by my side and
We will live big life.
Art Prescription: You can look at your days, weeks, months, years, in one of two ways. One, with total gratitude for all that you are and your health, and all that you have. Or two, a glass half empty all the time, focusing on every little hang nail that comes your way. Wow! Now that’s some deep decisions! Swim….
Watercolor on 140 lb watercolor paper:
She knows her domain
Is at one with elements
Shows you who she is.
Art Prescription: A friend of mine recently reminded me, “If people show you who they are, believe them.” Once again I’m drawn to the deeper consciousness that is our animal world. Always asking what can we learn?
This is my second sea turtle. The first one I did with alcohol inks which was fun and bright and bold. This one is softer, done with watercolor. 8 1/2 x 11 watercolor
Simple boundaries
Ancient way of the horse herd
Communication.
Art Prescription: Boundaries…we all have them. I’ve done a lot of work this past year on learning about boundaries, including a course with Pixie Lighthorse called Boundaries Bootcamp. Thank you Pixie. And thank you horses. As I watch your simple and most of the time gentle interactions you keep your boundaries and those of others clean and neat. Pixie would say, “keep your side of the street clean.” As I get busier with art and an exciting launch coming soon!, I find myself needing to set better boundaries, where I choose to spend my energy or not. This is good stuff folks! It means getting clearer and more balanced in your life and the ongoing daily exchange of energy. Aho!
