Petunias July 29, 2014

Hot bubblegum pink

Petunias spill outward

Wave to butterflies.

Art Prescription:  This started as a watercolor pencil sketch in my garden on mixed-media paper. Then I took it into my studio and washed it down with water. I added watercolor loosely over pencil strokes and then spattered a bit! FUN!

Sunflowers July 28, 2014

Goddess of July

Rays of silk, golden, yellow

Flower of the sun.

Art Prescription:  My hubby brought me flowers. It still thrills me! As I arranged these sunflowers, I knew I had to capture them in paint. Did a loose watercolor today…will see if it’s done tomorrow, or if I want to detail.

Scrap Exchange Journal July 27, 2014

Fashion and beauty

Your external expression

Does not define you.

Art Prescription:  Long, lived day. Woke early, coffee (Facebook, yep), walk, swim, read, and then went to Scrap Exchange. This place is plundering heaven…junk galore…paper extravagansa.

Great finds for art journaling! I bought a $3.00 bag of mixed papers and found lots of vintage patterns.

It’s a Journey July 24, 2014

Colorful journey

Air, sunshine and laid-back vibe

Relax and recharge.

Art Prescription:  Tired after my RN day…found poetry. Yes, I do notice the “get-away” theme.

3 x 5 index card art. I love being able to do these! Brings me satisfaction to the most stressful days.

Spa Time July 22, 2014

Rejuvenation

A place to go to deep breath

Regroup, rest, do art.

Art Prescription:  My assignment from a customer, spa art, has me day-dreaming about such a place. Waterfalls, massages, long walks in nature, time to contemplate, inspired art…Wanna go?

Here is how my piece from yesterday turned out.

Quiet Walk July 21, 2014

Thick, humid July

Grey broody sky hangs heavy

Sly seasonal shift.

Art Prescription:  Twas unusually quiet on my evening walk. Just a couple of frogs croaking and an occasional bird. I sense the season beginning to change. Spring and summer are petering out, and though we have many warm days ahead, there is a subtle change in the air.

This is a work in progress with many layers so far…not sure where it’s going…

Life is Story July 17, 2014

Her or His story

Glory moments left unheard

Unless we listen.

Art Prescription:  At work at my nursing job today I was thinking about the patient’s need to tell his or her story. Too bad in the computerized, fast, electronic world of taking care of humans, the time to sit and truly listen to your patient’s story is being lost. Good health care providers realize that this is what “care,” “health-care,” is all about. Standing tall on my soap box!!!

Fresh Basil July 16, 2014

Freshly washed by rain

Nothing compares, sweet basil

For corn succotash.

Art Prescription:  The scent of basil after a good summer rain is intoxicating. So I brought some inside to add to my fresh corn off-the-cob and tomato succotash.

Part of my mission for the Art Prescription is to encourage others to create. Keep an art journal, paint, or sketch. I’m developing some materials you can use in your next mix-media project available in my shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/beverlydyer?ref=l2-shopheader-name
