Basil in July

Today I made two eggplant, vidalia onion, red pepper, feta cheese, and fresh basil calzones. They are cooling all brown and plump. Being in the moment is part of what adds zest to daily life. We all have senses that we use to experience moment after moment.

The solitary act of going to the garden to cut fresh basil is for me sensuous. In other words, I see the bright green leaves, and as I cut them I feel the slight sticky texture of the plant, I hear the birds serenading in the background, and most of all I smell the sweet, fresh, scent of the herb that only summer can provide! Bliss… I will surely put some up for later!

Basil in July

Basil, fresh, sweet, cut,

Fragrance of July. Frozen,

Sunshine in winter.
