Christmas Eve

Wash Annie’s China

Smell of cornbread in skillet

Tinsel on the tree.

Art Prescription: MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!

As I prepped for our Christmas Dinner, I washed my china which was my grandmother’s, Annie Callis Jones.

My brother and I talked about how both our grandparents grew and canned their own vegetables. Holiday meals were prepared for months in advance. Weeks of gathering and “putting up” the harvest. Weeks of baking from scratch real layered cakes with freshly grated coconut.

We had no idea!!

To go back to just one meal…the ghost of Christmas past.

We will cook with our hearts tomorrow.

I hope you and your family are enjoying this joyful season, and creating memories to last a lifetime!

Cheers,

Bev

Re-paint

Sun chases the frost

Along the edge of the woods

A thin line of white.

Art Prescription: We had a heavy frost last night, and on my way to feed the horses I noticed a distinct line where the morning sun hit the ground.

Here I have negative painted around the blown winter tress I did last week. Guess I’ll need to do another for spring. Just feeling winter!

Cats

All about comfort

Find a warm spot to curl up

Purrs and rolls over.

Art Prescription: Do you ever watch your cat and wish you could allow yourself to experience such luxury on a daily basis?

Cats know comfort.

This is another Christmas portrait that I think is done. Another look after a good night’s sleep.

Winter Trees

Bare branches reach up

Winter trees rest, spring promise

Bird’s nests lie quiet.

Art Prescription: I find winter trees to be sculptural beauties. Here I’ve blown black watercolor.

This piece will become spring trees for a very special “Wine and Watercolor” I’m doing at the North Carolina Botanical Garden. Valentine 2019

I’ll fill in the next step soon…stay tuned:

Sun Down

Cool, crisp air, hits cheeks

Sun sinks, the cold settles in

I look for my gloves.

Art Prescription: Farrier day at farm. Bright warm December sun.

As the sun went down the temperature dropped 20 degrees!

Art journal with watercolor, swirly trees:

Boot Sucking Mud

Frozen in place, sunk

Horse stands still, I slide sideways

In boot sucking mud!

Art Prescription: So while I was horsing around I took a dip in the mud. I just have to laugh and carry on.

The horses were grateful for dry hay into their run-in sheds.

Feeling the holiday spirit I did a little mixed media painting:

Sketches on the Bus

Lots of fur jackets

File onto bus where it’s warm

Ride to and from work.

Art Prescription: I take the bus up to the UNC Hospitals campus for work. I’m helping out while they are short. Just one day a week…

Here are a couple of pen and ink sketches I did going and coming home. Drawing on a moving vehicle is not perfect.
