Gentleness September 16, 2015

Deer, gentle you are

Full of love and pure kindness

Touch wounded beings.

Art Prescription:  Deer medicine has come into my art again. Here is an excerpt from “Medicine Cards: The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals,” by Jamie Sams And David Carson.

“If Deer has gently nudged its way into your cards today, you are being asked to find the gentleness of spirit that heals all wounds. Stop pushing so hard to get others to change, and love them as they are. Apply gentleness to your present situation and become like the summer breeze: warm and caring. This is your tool for solving the present dilemma are you facing. If you use it, you will connect with Sacred Mountain, your centering place of serenity, and Great Spirit will guide you.”

“In its true application, unconditional love means that no strings are attached.”

Quiet Walk September 12, 2015

The woods are quiet

My bike wheels spin on the trail

Flowers go to seed.

Art Prescription:  Sam and I went to Tobacco Trail today. We drove out across Jordan Lake to the portion of the trail that crosses the wetlands of the lake. We saw four different kinds of woodpeckers. They have a primo opportunity in that habitat with all the stags. I’m coloring my Art Prescription Deck to make thumbnails for final production. This is the fun part!

Each 5 x 7 card in the deck will be printed on Bristol Vellum – an artist grade paper! The botanical names will be listed and the family.

Blackberry Lily – Belamcancia chinensis – Iris Family

Persian Speedwell – Veronica persica – Figwort Family

Flock September 7, 2015

Birds of a feather

Flock together, so they say

Know where you belong.

Art Prescription:  Remember the clicks in high-school where you were struggling to fit in? As adults, I think we struggle with this issue. Life is like a river, constantly moving and changing, going with the flow. Birds seem better than us at knowing who they want to fly with. For them it’s simple. It’s mutual support.
