Remembering tree

An act of art to mourn loss

You are not alone.

Art Prescription:  My stark tree coming to life as people remember a loved one. Through art, people grieve, feel less alone in their sorrow, and create beauty. Thank you Heidi Gessner, UNC Bereavement Coordinator, for inviting me to be a part of this service!

Time for Change October 28, 2013

Real change takes real work

Life. Many distinct layers

Like an onion.

Art Prescription:  Life has many layers, and this can be conveyed in an art journal. I started this page in my workshop today, and once in my studio it took a different route.  An art journal can be a reflection of life.

Hibernation October 26, 2013

First cold frost last night

Green fella steals warmth from rocks

Hibernation time.

Art Prescription:  While walking at Mason Farm today we saw two snakes. A pretty citron-green one and a black one. Since winter is sneaking in, I wasn’t expecting these slithering beauties. Guess like us they are seeking the last bit of warm sunshine!

Flock of Geese October 25, 2013

Geese float in the sun

Soon to gather on shore and

Take flight in a V.

Art Prescription:  As the sun heads down, the geese on the pond take in the last remaining rays. They wade around, seemingly not doing. Then as if choreographed, they move to line up on shore and take off forming the classic V shaped flight pattern.  I’ve heard that geese stick together. If one goose goes down, the others go down until they know that the flock must go on. My work with horses is like that. The good of the herd is of up-most importance.

State Fair October 24, 2013

An overnight shift

When the State Fair comes to town

Brings winter with it.

Art Prescription:  Here in North Carolina the State Fair comes rolling in about mid-October. Suddenly fair goers shift from shorts and tees to coats and hats. This year I’m missing out on fried, sugar-coated, Oreo s…dang!!
