Birds sing in the rain
They sing in the sun, they sing
Because they have song!!
Art Prescription: I love Maya Angelou and have used her beautiful quote in today’s Art Prescription.
Index card with stamp and colored pencil:
Don’t quit your dream job
Keep going day after day
Your spirit knows best!
Art Prescription: I’m so excited to share! I picked up the first printing of The Art Prescription: A Dose of Coloring Inspiration today! You can find this in my Etsy shop. Here is the back page with all 12 illustrations featured for you to color!
Perfectly quiet
With the door open, pitter-
patter of rain, fresh.
Art Prescription: The breeze, the rain, and just me and the birds. I love painting in my studio on a rainy day. I keep the door wide open and listen to the soft fall of the rain. Soothing. Backyard birds visit for a sunflower or two.
8 x 8 watercolor “Little Bull”
Run free with the wind
The sound of galloping hooves
Herd of wild horses.
Art Prescription: Despite the rain and wind, I went out after work to see Finn. Horses like to run in the wind, and Finn is no exception. I was going to brush him, but sensed his restless energy. I set him free back into the pasture and then watched as he and his friends ran and frolicked in the wind!! So beautiful this wild, belongs to nature, creature. In awe…

Blue in the face from
Trying to be heard, the rose
Became a daisy.
Art Prescription: So why not be a daisy in the first place? Did she think a rose was better? When we find ourselves projecting, over explaining (boy that takes a lot of energy), feeling defensive, being judgmental, it’s time to dust off our boundary lessons. When we feel we have reincarnated the goddess Kali and start on a destructive rampage, it’s time to dust off our boundary lessons. From Pixie Lighthorse’s Boundaries Boot Camp with Mountain Lion:
“In healthy relationships, a boundaries practice and language feels like self-care. They might feel more like good, sturdy fences in less-than-healthy ones. You can still see over them. Energy can still pass through from a safe distance, but trespassing is not permitted.”
Reach for the sun dear daisy, grow and be gracious. We cannot all be daisies!
8 x 8 alcohol ink on watercolor paper:
Big bucks September
Heads adorned with a sculptor
Stand tall in the woods.
Art Prescription: I continue to try and paint bucks. My challenge…to capture their essence, and stay loose and gestural. This is on big 22.5 x 30 paper, so I used very wet watercolor and big brushes. I even did the faint background with a house-paint brush. It’s fun painting BIG!!
And a nice break from launching The Art Prescription Deck: A Dose of Coloring Inspiration – I’m picking up samples Monday, whoot!!

Watercolor on 22.5 x 30 300lb arches watercolor paper:
Grasshoppers whirl by
Black crows chuckle in the trees
Horses swish their tails.
Art Prescription: Trying to take a day of rest…I went to swim and sauna. Rest? My restless soul is not familiar with this concept. So I ventured out to the farm to just be. And I did. I stood in the pasture watching horses graze and nudge each other gently. I saw crows and hawks fly by making lots of racket. I watched song-birds land on the fence to survey their next bug. I petted, leaned on, an loved on all the horses.
