Red velvet petals
Surely the scent of great love
Last October rose.
Art Prescription: No wonder famous par-fumes get their recipe from nature! Few flowers measure up to the smell of a freshly bloomed rose!
Shorts start to recede
Jackets, sweaters take center
Soon coats will appear.
Art Prescription: It was 54 degrees when I left the house this morning. On the bus into work I notice the exchange of summer shorts and flip-flops for a bit more coverage. Scarves, fashionable year-round, now start to take on functionality. I love the change of seasons! As the trees begin to lose their leaves, us humans begin to layer. Notice each day the subtle…
Uncomfortable
Bind, mold, shape, lift, divide, fit
Fit? Fashion? sexy?
Art Prescription: Okay so this is predominately for my female readers. I recently bought a new swim suit from a local athletic store. I’m a lap swimmer so my suits wear out fast. When I went to pick it up, the store owner informed me that they will now be stocking the suit I ordered…you know a lap suit with a shelf bra. She commented she wasn’t as “old as I was and she liked a bit of support.” WHAT!?! That was a few weeks ago, and me being me, I’m still thinking about shelf or no shelf, under-wire, or athletic, padded or minimizer…Really don’t we all just want to be comfortable under our clothes. Is this too simple to ask? Our culture and advertising dictates what the “real” woman should look like. Masses of women are spending lots of money to try and fits these ideals. How have we gotten so far away from seeing each other as real human beings, each with an individual spirit and joy of life, each with their own gift to give right now. I now step down from my box…
Las Vegas style hat
Red feathery flamboyant
Hummingbirds fancy!
Art Prescription: Bee Balm is an exotic flower. Deep tones of red stand tall on sturdy green stalks. True to their name, the bees love them, and so do hummingbirds. While I water my garden I often get a fly by, fluorescent hummer zipping in and out of my water stream. Their long pointy beaks fit nicely into the Bee Balm vessels. Our lives are so filled with motion and activity. The garden always reminds me to stand still a moment and just watch!
I love the composition of this sketch…it’s like lovers saying “I need to tell you something.”
Five pots of color
Lots of clean white apparel
Twist and turn, design!
Art Prescription: Out watering my garden when I noticed my neighbor doing something on their back deck. Making ice-cream? Cooking? Planting? Seemed they were wearing some kind of gloves…watered a little closer. “Come on over they beckoned.” Ah…Tie-Dye! They had the full system in place, the pre-soak, red, yellow, purple, blue, and green containers of color and lots of rubber bands. Mind if I crash your tie-dye party? Ran home to get a plain white skirt that was destined for the Goodwill, and viola!!! New skirt. What fun! Ain’t it wonderful to have neighbors that welcome you to their back-yard events…Oh, you are having burgers!! Just kidding!!!!
Red bras and chainsaws,
Leather and lace, well-rounded
An array of parts.
Art Prescription: Most of us are made up of many parts. The life we have lived up to this very moment makes us who we are, and filters the way we see the world. We all have soft and hard edges which serve us well in different situations. Part of what makes a painting interesting is soft and hard edges…they all work together to form a whole.
Red spiky bee balm
Sweet nectar for hummingbirds
Buzz in, hover, drink.
Art Prescription: I have two patches of bee balm in my garden, and the one nearest the house blooms first. I can look out my kitchen window and see dazzling hummers coming to and fro, their iridescent color reflecting in the sunlight. As in life, you can attract what you need and what makes you hum in various ways. My point of view is that of having something real, something that goes beyond the external (the glossy pages of a magazine), life in the here and now…inner peace comes from the inside out.
Old-fashion lilac
Grew well at my grandmother’s
Now I have my own.
Art Prescription: This is the best year yet for my lilac. I cut a vase full and brought them in. The whole room is scented! I took photos with my studio in the background, and this is a must paint flower!! Really need a scratch and sniff!
